I’m Jasmine Brown, but my creative brand alias is Grootbek (bekkie for my day 1’s). I’m a Joburg born and raised graphic designer and illustrator, and my biggest mission in life is to create impactful designs that resonate deeply with my audiences. My illustration style is playful and vibrant, blending absurdist imagery with creative concept.
I have been creating since I was very young, from stick puppets with my sister to comic strips on my school worksheet cut offs. I have a deep love for creating and the way that design and story telling shape the world around us. As designers we have a responsibility to push forward innovation while also highlighting the issues faced by the ordinary person. I am on a mission to reform the creative space, and I have the most fun when I’m being true to myself and the people I create for.

As a coloured woman navigating the creative space, it is easy to allow myself to fall into the habit of doubting myself, my abilities and the weight that my words and actions hold. I want my work to have a lasting positive impact on those that see it and receive it. I want to lift up the other women around me, give a voice to my community and leave things a little better off than I found it.
What I offer
I am a trained graphic designer, but my main strengths lay in character design, Illustration, brand identity design and logo creation. I have also been working in the advertising space for the past year and a half.
