Women Are Where Simplicity and Complexity Co-Exist

Womanhood is a paradox. Women can be so simple, and yet so complex, at the same time. I am constantly in a state of confusion.

Recently, I have been inspired by classical art and how the artists use bodies and movement to communicate a message.
Drawing inspiration from that, these images capture women existing in the ordinary. Resting, thinking, and existing within the mess of everyday life. Their expressions remain neutral, allowing posture, gesture, and presence to communicate what words often cannot.

I am fascinated and in awe of how much beauty, comfort, and joy can exist within seemingly insignificant moments. Women have a remarkable ability to romanticise the everyday, creating meaning from the ordinary. Womanhood cannot be defined, these images sit within the contradictions, celebrating the tenderness, complexity, and quiet pleasure of being a woman.

Zelda

My name is Zelda, and I am a photographer based in Cape Town. Photography allows me to pay attention to the world around me and to the questions within myself. I am drawn to people, contradictions, and the quiet beauty of everyday life. As my work continues to evolve, so do I. While I call myself a photographer, I am working towards becoming an artist, a title I believe is earned through a lifetime of creating and curiosity.
